How to Write a Week of Social Media Posts in 20 Minutes With AI

The businesses that win on social media aren’t the ones posting the most. They’re the ones posting consistently. A dentist who posts every Tuesday, a plumber who shares a job photo every Friday, a bookkeeper who drops a tip on the first Monday of each month — they build audiences. The businesses that post in bursts and then disappear do not. Here’s how to use AI to produce five posts in 20 minutes, every week, without running out of ideas.

Why Consistency Beats Quality (And How to Achieve Both)

Most business owners approach social media the wrong way: they sit down, try to think of something brilliant, fail, and give up for another three weeks.

AI changes that equation. You don’t need to be brilliant. You need to be consistent. And consistency only requires a system.

The system is this: every week, you spend 20 minutes with ChatGPT or Claude, give it the context about your business and your week, and it generates five posts you then tweak, approve, and schedule.

That’s it. The genius is in the briefing — not the writing.

The 5-Category Framework

Before you write a single prompt, decide what kind of posts you’re making this week. Use these five categories as your rotation:

1. Educational — Teach your audience something useful about your industry. “Three things to check before signing a lease.” “Why your hot water system might be wasting money.” “What a BAS actually covers.”

2. Personal / Behind-the-scenes — Let people see the human behind the business. A job site photo. A “this week was messy but we got there” caption. The coffee you had before a big client meeting.

3. Promotional — A service, a package, an offer, a booking link. Direct. Once a week, not five times.

4. Client win — A project result, a before/after, a brief testimonial. “Our client in Geelong just saved 4 hours a week — here’s what we did.” (Always get permission first.)

5. Community / Local — Something about your area or industry. A local business shoutout. A comment on something happening in your city. A reaction to industry news.

Pick one topic per category at the start of the week. You now have five posts. You have not written a word yet.

The Master Prompt

Open ChatGPT or Claude and paste this:

I run a [business type] in [city]. My audience is [description —
e.g. "small business owners in Melbourne looking to save time on admin"].

Write 5 social media posts for this week. Here are the topics:

1. Educational: [topic]
2. Behind-the-scenes: [what's happening this week]
3. Promotional: [service or offer]
4. Client win: [brief description of result, anonymised if needed]
5. Community/local: [local angle or industry news]

Tone: [warm and conversational / professional / direct and no-fluff — pick one]

For each post:
- Keep it under 150 words
- Write for Facebook and LinkedIn (I'll adapt for Instagram separately)
- Include a call to action on posts 3 and 5 only
- No hashtags in the post body (I'll add them separately)

The output: five complete post drafts, ready to review.

Review time: 5 minutes. Read each one, adjust any that don’t sound like you, swap in a specific detail you know that the AI couldn’t. Five posts reviewed and personalised in 5 minutes.

Platform-Specific Tweaks

The master prompt gives you Facebook/LinkedIn drafts. Here’s how to adapt for each platform in under 2 minutes:

Facebook: Works as-is for most small businesses. Facebook rewards slightly longer posts (200–300 words) and posts that ask a question at the end (“Has this happened to you?”). If your post is short, add a question.

Instagram: The first line is everything — it’s what appears before “More.” Run a second prompt: Rewrite this post for Instagram. Make the first sentence a hook that stops someone scrolling. Keep the body but tighten it. Under 120 words.

LinkedIn: Professional but personal. Add a one-line opener that’s slightly vulnerable or direct: “I made a mistake this week.” “Here’s what three years in business taught me.” Run: Rewrite this for LinkedIn. Add a strong first line. Make it feel human, not corporate.

Google Business Profile: Underused and underrated for local SEO. Keep posts to 150 words, always include your suburb or city name, always end with “Call us” or “Book online.” AI drafts these faster than any other platform.

Making It Sound Like You

AI-generated posts sometimes feel slightly smooth — too perfectly constructed, not quite how you actually talk. Fix this with three moves:

1. Add one specific detail. “We finished a job in Surry Hills this week — big old terrace, took us two days longer than expected, but the client’s face when we showed her the result.” AI can’t know that. You can add it in 10 seconds.

2. Use your actual vocabulary. If you never say “leverage” or “synergy,” delete them. If you say “reckon” and “mate,” add them. A quick read-through with your ear for your own voice catches most of it.

3. Run the “would I say this out loud?” test. Read the post aloud. If any sentence makes you stumble, rewrite it in the words you’d actually use.

The goal isn’t posts that sound like AI wrote them. It’s posts that sound like you wrote them — but faster.

The Weekly Rhythm

Monday morning, 20 minutes:

  1. Minutes 1–3: Pick your 5 topics (one per category)
  2. Minutes 4–8: Run the master prompt, read the output
  3. Minutes 9–14: Edit each post — one specific detail per post minimum
  4. Minutes 15–18: Adapt the Instagram version for any post you’re using there
  5. Minutes 19–20: Schedule (Buffer, Later, or Meta Business Suite — all free tiers work)

Done. Five posts for the week. You won’t touch social media again until Monday.

What About Running Out of Ideas?

The category framework solves this for most weeks. But if you’re stuck on what to put in each category, run this:

I run a [business type] in [city]. Give me 10 post ideas for each
of these categories:
1. Educational posts for my audience ([description])
2. Behind-the-scenes posts for a [business type]
3. Client win angles (anonymised, professional)
4. Community/local content ideas for a [city] business
5. Promotional post angles for [services]

I want ideas, not full posts. One line each.

You’ll get 50 ideas in 30 seconds. Save the ones you like. That list runs for months.
